From Naples to Yerevan: A Journey of Rest, Reflection, and Ministry

After weeks of preparation, I finally landed in Naples, Italy early in the morning. I was blessed with an open seat next to me on the overnight flight—a small gift that allowed for some precious rest in the air.

Upon arrival, my taxi ride from the airport to the hotel reminded me why we should always stay “prayed up”—narrow streets, assertive drivers, and plenty of near misses! When I reached the hotel, I learned my room wouldn’t be ready for several hours, so I checked my bags and set out to explore the city.

There’s something deeply grounding about strolling through the ancient streets of Naples, sipping Italian coffee, and reflecting on the layers of history etched into its walls. This city has witnessed centuries of change—from Greek beginnings to Roman rule and everything in between.

Walking those streets reminded me that God’s story is always unfolding—even in the places that seem worn with time.

That first day offered me a much-needed pause. After a full night of sleep (10 hours, a rare treat!), I was reminded again how vital rest is—not just for our bodies, but for our souls. Jesus modeled this for us. Amidst His demanding ministry, He frequently stepped away to rest, pray, and reconnect with the Father. I sensed the same need in myself. These past few weeks had been full of preparation, and I welcomed the quiet moments to walk, reflect, and simply be still before the Lord.

In the afternoon, I stepped into the breathtaking Duomo di Napoli (Naples Cathedral). Beyond the physical relief it provided, the sanctuary refreshed my soul. The beauty of its architecture and history spoke of a Church that has shaped the world for generations. In that moment, I felt deeply connected to the global Body of Christ—and to the saints who’ve gone before us.

Soon it was time to move on. The next leg of my trip took me from Naples to Brussels, and then to Yerevan, Armenia. After a long travel day, I arrived at my hotel close to 2 a.m. The bed never looked so inviting!

The next morning, I awoke to the stunning view of snow-capped mountains surrounding Yerevan. The city has seen unusual rainfall lately, blessing the hillsides with fresh snow. At breakfast, I was greeted warmly by David, one of the hotel staff I’ve come to know over the years. We’ve had many meaningful conversations, and he continues to be spiritually curious. Please pray that his heart remains open to the loving invitation of Jesus.

That afternoon, I met with Pastor Natalia—perhaps the only female pastor in Armenia—and her colleagues Hasmik and Sergo, a talented Armenian singer. Over a delicious lunch and rich conversation, Pastor Natalia reflected on our shared journey over the past six years. I’m always inspired by her perseverance in a context that hasn’t always welcomed her leadership. Yet, her faithfulness is bearing fruit. Her church is growing, and her witness is making a powerful impact.

Later that evening, I had the joy of ministering to a gathering of church leaders and pastors. The worship was heartfelt and Spirit-led—not focused on performance, but rooted in praise. It was an honor to teach on the theme of discernment—emphasizing how perceiving differs from merely seeing. We all need eyes to perceive what God is doing, especially in leadership.

I returned to my hotel late that night, full of gratitude for how God moved among us. As my head hit the pillow, I reflected on how rest, reflection, and ministry are deeply interwoven in this journey.

Thank you for walking with me through your prayers and encouragement. Your partnership helps make this ministry possible. I look forward to sharing more in the days to come.
